Paul L. Burroughs, III, M.D., P.A.
Paul L. Burroughs is a Raleigh native. He is a board certified Orthopaedic Surgeon and a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. His specialties include Arthroscopic Surgery, Joint Replacement Surgery, and Sports Medicine.
Dr. Burroughs was raised in Raleigh and is an alumnus of Broughton High School. He received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill . His interest in medicine began early during his sophomore year of college where he began research on ligament and bone healing in the UNC Division of Orthopaedic Surgery. He attended UNC Medical School and graduated with a Doctor of Medicine. During medical school, he was awarded a grant from the NIH to pursue additional year of Orthopaedic research and was a member of the John B. Graham Research Society.
He next went to the University of Florida in Gainesville where he completed an internship in General Surgery. Then, through the Department of Orthopaedics, he completed his residency training. During his residency, he had the honor of being elected the most outstanding chief resident.
Following his residency, Dr. Burroughs joined the Bone and Joint Surgery Clinic in Raleigh. He is a board certified Orthopaedic Surgeon, a member of the American Medical Society, Wake County Medical Society, North Carolina Medical Society, and is a Diplomat to the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He is certified in the United States Medical Licensing Examinations USMLE I, II, and III. He is published in the American Journal of Sports Medicine and the Journal of Arthroplasty. He is currently a team physician for the North Carolina State Wolfpack football team.
Dr. Burroughs has served and currently is active on multiple hospital committees at Rex and Duke Health Raleigh Hospital, such as Quality Assurance and Ethics, Infection Control, and Emergency Services. He also serves on the Community Board of the Medical Mutual Insurance Company of North Carolina.
He enjoys spending time with his wife, Jenny, his twin girls, Katie and Emily, and his son, Joey. His personal interests include golf, fishing, tennis, and sailing.
